CRYSTAL LAKE – Before the Texas Roadhouse takes over the T.G.I. Friday’s restaurant in Crystal Lake, residents got a chance to purchase some of their favorite Friday’s wall decor and bar supplies.

The T.G.I. Friday’s, located at 835 Cog Circle, closed its doors on June 30, and the restaurant held an online auction last week to sell off everything from music posters to frying pans.

Jeanna Hoekstra was in Monday to pick up a wall-mounted sailboat and some Harley Davidson merchandise that she purchased for $68.

“We came in a week ago to try and eat lunch and it was closed with a sign on the door about the auction,” She said. “We were really surprised. We had no idea they auctioned off this stuff.”

The auction company Worley Auctions declined to say how much money was made from the online bidding, but did say a 60-inch TV sold for more than $900, the ice machine went for $575, and the rotating disco ball reached $172.

“Auctions are a great way to turn assets into cash,” said owner Penny Worley in a written statement. “Auctions work.”

The auctioned items were being collected Monday, and a crew will come in and renovate the building for Texas Roadhouse to move in. The new restaurant is scheduled to open Nov. 18.

Michelle Rentzsch, the city’s director of planning and economic development, told the Northwest Herald in December that the redesigned building will feature three garage doors that can be opened in the summer to provide for alfresco dining. Many other interior and exterior changes also are planned as the restaurant is transformed, she said.
